Time machine is great for when you generally satisfied with the health of your computer systems and need faster Tier 2/Tier 1 (immediate) access to files that have become corrupted somehow. If you were to copy you whole home drive - periodically - updating as you go, CCC may prove a useful as a slow/'Tier 3'/archive back-up of last resort. It is useful for quickly accessing content within a Mac application, however, and would be faster than CCC, which would require you to boot from your destination CCC drive (previously copied).

Without a Mac, it is not much use beyond this and is software based. What is Carbon Copy Cloner 6 Created by Bombich, Carbon Copy Cloner 6 has two purposes. It checks the data as it goes, hence the name. Carbon Copy Cloner 6 is so good that I decided to write a guide about using it. Thanks for you knowledge and opinions.įrom memory, CCC does simply copies all the data as appears and is structured on the source drive.

I could use any help and direction on how to properly recover what I need from CCC or opinions on using Time Machine exclusively over Carbon Copy Cloner or the reverse. If I cannot become more knowledgeable about CCC I am thinking about changing all my backup drives to Time Machine. I don't believe I really know how to properly use Carbon Copy Cloner because I don't know how to go into any of the three drives I have using CCC and recover what I need. I have also used the Time Machine backup and it has been successful. There I have been a few occasions over the past years when I needed to recover something from the backups. One is a back up of my MacBook, one a backup of my Music Library and one that backs up both. Then I have three different SSD that use Carbon Copy Cloner. One is a Time Machine Backup that covers both my MacBook and Music Library which is on an external drive. I have four separate external SSD that I use for backups.

But, I am a little confused and could use some help, clarification when it comes to back ups. I think of myself as semi-literate when it comes to computers, networking and applications and such things.
